AITA For Canceling My Wedding After Seeing My Fiancé’s Text Messages?

I (27F) have been engaged to my fiancé, “Jake” (29M), for over a year. Our wedding was supposed to be next month, and almost everything was paid for.

My sister, “Chloe” (24F), is my maid of honor. She and Jake always got along well, which I thought was great.

Last Friday, Jake was in the shower, and his phone kept buzzing on the kitchen counter. I usually never check his phone, but I thought it might be an emergency from his work. When I looked at the screen, I saw a text from Chloe that said: “I can’t wait for this stupid wedding to be over so we can finally tell her.”

My heart dropped. I unlocked his phone and opened their chat. They had been sleeping together for the last six months. Worse, Jake was complaining to her about how much he dreaded marrying me, and they were planning to move away together after the wedding was finalized so they could take my share of our joint savings account.

I didn’t scream or cry. I packed my most important things, took screenshots of the messages, sent them to our family group chat, and left the house.

Within an hour, my phone was blowing up. Jake was begging me to come back, saying it was a mistake. My parents were horrified. However, my aunt and a few cousins are actually mad at me for “causing a public scene” and making a family scandal by exposing them in the group chat instead of handling it privately. They said I ruined Chloe’s reputation permanently.

I have officially canceled all the vendors and told Jake I am selling the ring.

Am I the asshole for exposing them to the entire family instead of dealing with it privately?
